It is our privilege to welcome you to New World Day School's thirty-eighth year of excellence in early childhood education. The program began in 1968 and has developed into one of the most outstanding early childhood programs in the metroplex. Although New World Day School is an important ministry of New World United Methodist Church, the school is self sufficient and depends strictly on tuition and creative fundraising to maintain our yearly budget.

Throughout the years, developmental theories and practices regarding young children have changed. New World Day School's developmentally appropriate curriculums are evaluated each year to reflect these changes. Although there are changes in academics and curriculums, our philosophy has remained constant. It is our belief that every child is entitled to the highest standard of quality in early childhood education. We strive to instill the love of learning and healthy self-esteem in every child. Our philosophy is supported by the Abecedarian Project, a federally funded study on the impact of educational intervention in the lives of young children. It focused on the cognitive development of children who were enrolled in quality preschools. The study indicates these children score better on cognitive tests throughout their lives. We believe that all children should be afforded this experience. Therefore, we must keep our tuition as low as possible to ensure that no child is excluded .Our tremendously dedicated teaching staff is instrumental in supporting our philosophy. The majority of our staff has taught at New World Day School for fifteen or more years. The teachers are driven by their passion to instill a love of learning that will last a lifetime. Though salaries are low, dedication and passion remains high! The staff at New World is chosen through education, experience, and love of young children.

The Preschool experience begins at the age of 2½. What a wonderful time to introduce social skills. New friends are made as well as adventurous learning through thematic learning units each week. The children attend our exciting Body Rhythmics program twenty minutes each day.

New World Day School's three year old program opens the door to fine arts and lays the foundation for academic success. This age group focuses on the development of the whole child through cognitive learning and small/gross motor skill development. Thematic units of study take the children on an incredible journey of imagination and learning. Some of the favorite units are Rain Forest; Castles, Knights, and Dragons; and Dinosaurs. The three year old teachers utilize the masterpieces of Van Gogh, Monet, Jackson Pollock, Rousseau, Mondrian, Seurat, Matisse, and Michelangelo to improve the children's visual-discrimination skills and verbal abilities. Studies show that children who are exposed to fine art learn to draw concrete conclusions, an ability valuable in math and science. As the children journey through the works of the world's most creative artists, parents will marvel at the children's own masterpieces. The New World Three Year Old program is one of few in the Dallas Ft.Worth area to focus exclusively on the "Arts." We believe children's art should be framed, not just put on the refrigerator! As the great Picasso once said "at fifteen I painted like Valazquez, and it took me eighty years to paint like a child."

New World Day School's four-year-old preschool program focuses on preparing children for kindergarten through phonemic awareness, alphabet recognition, math concepts, science, and creative art. The four-year-old curriculums are age and developmentally appropriate. The curriculums stress hands-on creativity while incorporating broad based learning experiences that provide the foundation for academic success. The program centers on thematic units of study that promote social skill development, problem solving, alphabet recognition, math and science concepts, reading readiness, and an appreciation for quality children's literature.

In addition to academics, a tremendous emphasis is placed on the child's self esteem. Through the various units, children will learn that each person is unique and that individuality is a tremendous asset. The children will take pride in their accomplishments and respect the accomplishments of others.

The classroom centers include creative writing center, reading center, science center, math center, building center, computer, manipulatives/puzzles, and home center. Each center revolves around the week's unit of study. Children are encouraged to experience different centers each week.

Twenty minutes of the four-year-olds' day is spent in the Body Rhythmics classroom. This program is designed to aid in gross motor skill development through music and movement. The children use song, dance, various sports, puppets, and other physical activities in this class, as well as excellent children's music.

The computers in each of the four-year-old classroom are used daily. Developmentally appropriate software is provided for phonic and math instruction. Thus begins the introduction to the exciting world of technology.

Field trips contribute to learning outside the classroom and are an integral part of our program. Parents are encouraged to participate.

The Kindergarten Program is a very exciting year for children, teachers, and parents because there is an incredible amount of learning and progress! Kindergartners need praise and encouragement to feel and be successful. New World UMC believes in creating an environment for our students that is homelike, positive, safe, creative and fun. New World UMC Kindergarten is a fully developed, literacy-based program designed to prepare children for the first grade. Fundamental instruction includes strong math and phonics curriculum as well as science, art, drama, music, motor skills, and personal and social development.
